Michigan Air Show Crash: Michigan Air Show Horror as MiG-23 Jet Plummets, Crew’s Daring Ejection Captivates Crowds

Before a Soviet-era warplane crashed and “burst into a raging fireball” at a Michigan air display, two individuals on board ejected to safety, according to authorities.

The MiG-23 jet’s pilot and passenger were flying the craft as part of the Thunder Over Michigan air display on Sunday.

They were safely transported to the ground by parachutes, and as a precaution, they were subsequently taken to a hospital.

At the Michigan Air Show Crash, no injuries have been recorded.

According to a Wayne County Airport Authority statement, the accident happened on Sunday in Belleville, Michigan, soon after 16:00 ET (21:00 BST), during the Yankee Air Museum’s Thunder over Michigan air show.

According to the airport authority, the jet crashed into vacant cars in a parking area at the Waverly on the Lake Apartments, just missing one apartment structure.

Then, as local media reported, the aircraft “burst into a raging fireball” just before rescue personnel arrived to put out the fire. From the ground, huge clouds of black smoke could be seen billowing into the sky.

According to Randy Wimbley, a spokesman for the Wayne County Airport Authority, “the pilot and backseater successfully ejected from the aircraft before the crash.” Although it didn’t seem like they had suffered any serious wounds, first responders took the pair to a local hospital out of caution.

The two were said to be in stable condition after being rescued, according to certain media reports.

Wimbley claimed that although unoccupied automobiles were hit by the plane as it crashed into the Waverly on the Lake apartment complex parking lot, “neither anyone at the apartment complex nor anyone at the air show was injured.”

The backseat passenger and the pilot, identified in the show as Dan Filer, can be seen ejecting as their parachutes open, gently lowering them to the earth. The two were said to be in stable condition after being rescued, according to certain media reports.

According to Marsha Bogardus, who spoke to the Detroit News, the collision incident was captured on film when she and her children were watching the performance on Belleville Lake. She related how the collision, which happened approximately an hour into the concert, scared her kids because of the combination of images and sounds.

In his recollection, Bogardus said, “We heard these enormous booms and saw the two pilots eject.” Everyone was afraid, including my children. It fell down like a bullet in a straight line.
